Terms of Service
Last updated: April 18, 2026
Agreement to Terms
By using channelsurfer.tv, creating an account, or subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part, please don’t use the site.
What Channel Surfer Does
Channel Surfer is a web app that presents YouTube videos in a retro TV-guide format. A free tier is available without an account, and a paid Supporter tier unlocks additional importing, account, and account-sync features of the Channel Surfer app. We do not host any video content; all videos are streamed from YouTube through YouTube’s official embed player.
Channel Surfer is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. Any YouTube trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
Age and Audience
Channel Surfer is not directed to children under 13. The service may surface a wide range of YouTube content, including mature themes, strong language, adult animation, and user-submitted messages.
If you are under 13, you may not use the service. If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should use the service with parent or guardian supervision.
Accounts
You may use the free tier without creating an account. To save imported channels to your account, sync across devices, or subscribe to a paid plan, you’ll need to create an account through our identity provider, Clerk.
You’re responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You can delete your account at any time. See the Communications section below for how account deletion interacts with marketing emails.
Paid Plans and Billing
Paid plans (Channel Surfer Supporter, monthly or annual) are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us and Stripe to charge the payment method on file for the subscription fee, any applicable taxes, and any renewals until you cancel.
Plan prices and billing intervals are shown on the upgrade page at the time of purchase. Prices may change for future billing periods; we’ll give you reasonable notice before a price change affects your subscription.
Automatic renewal
Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) at the then-current price until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the Stripe customer portal linked from your dashboard.
Cancellation
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period. You’ll continue to have Supporter access until that date and won’t be billed again. We don’t pro-rate the unused portion of a cancelled period.
Refunds
We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods, unused time, or plans you forgot to cancel. If Stripe charges you in error or you believe there’s a legitimate billing problem, contact us and we’ll sort it out.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will attempt to retry the charge for a short period. Supporter access continues while Stripe retries. If retries ultimately fail, the subscription will cancel and the account will return to the free tier at the end of the paid period already covered.
Promotion codes and founder pricing
Promotional codes (such as "EARLYBIRD") may apply a discount to a limited number of early subscribers or for a limited period. Discount details (amount, duration, redemption cap, expiry) are displayed on the upgrade page while the promotion is active. Once a promotion’s cap is reached or its expiry passes, it stops applying to new subscriptions. Renewals after the discounted period are billed at the full price.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, or interfere with the service’s availability, integrity, or security
- Abuse the bookmarklet, import tools, or any API endpoint to disrupt the service or collect data in bulk
- Scrape or crawl the site in an automated fashion without our express permission
- Share your account with others or resell access to the service
- Use the service to harass, defame, or infringe the rights of others
Imported Channel Data
When you import a YouTube subscription list, the imported list is kept in your browser’s local storage so the guide remembers your channels between visits. As we add cross-device sync (planned), your imported channels may also be saved to our database against your account so you can access them from other devices.
You retain all rights in the list you import. By importing channels, you grant us a limited licence to store and display that list solely to provide the service to you. We do not share your imported channel list with other users.
YouTube Content
Channel Surfer does not own, operate, or control any YouTube content. Videos are streamed through YouTube’s official IFrame Player API and remain subject to YouTube’s Terms of Service and any advertising, membership, or region restrictions YouTube enforces. The Channel Surfer Supporter plan is a subscription to the Channel Surfer app’s features; it does not grant access to YouTube content, remove YouTube’s advertisements, or alter YouTube’s Terms of Service.
Content Removal
If you are a rights holder, or the subject of a video surfaced through our curated guide, and you want a channel removed from Channel Surfer, please contact us. We review takedown requests promptly and will remove channels where appropriate. A formal DMCA intake form is coming soon. Note: we cannot remove content from YouTube itself; for that, contact YouTube directly.
Communications
We send two kinds of email:
- Service emails are tied to your account and include things like verification, billing receipts, renewal reminders, payment failures, and security alerts. As long as you have an active account or subscription, you’ll receive these.
- Product-update emails are low-volume announcements about Channel Surfer—new features, important changes, occasional notes from the team. When you create a Channel Surfer account, you’re automatically subscribed to this list. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email we send you; unsubscribing only stops product-update emails and does not affect service emails or your account.
Deleting your Channel Surfer account does not automatically remove you from the product-update list; the email list is managed separately. Use the unsubscribe link in any email to stop product-update emails.
Changes to Plans or Pricing
We may add, remove, or adjust plans, features, and pricing from time to time. Existing subscribers will be given reasonable notice before any price change affects their next renewal. You can cancel before the change takes effect if you don’t want to continue at the new price.
Disclaimer
Channel Surfer is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don’t guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Video availability, quality, and advertising behaviour depend on YouTube.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Channel Surfer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total cumulative liability arising from or related to the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or (b) USD $100.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site or via email. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
